Wish I had some pictures of this day, but I don't. You will have to use your imagination.
So after Richard's vacation - he was on 10 days straight (boo!). Saturday was his first day off so we spent it as a family. We had originally planned to playdate with our friend Julia who has a set of twins too, but seeing as I was 39.5 weeks pregnant (now a full 40) I just didn't think I could handle the twins by myself and I felt like we needed to be with Dad.
Dad decided he wanted us to go to the Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh. Sounds like a fun outing, right? So we load up the twins and head to Raleigh (and honestly, I don't much care what we do, as long as I am not alone doing it). What we didn't anticipate was the "Historic Thousands on Jones Street People's Assembly" put on by the NAACP of North Carolina. Guess where the Museum was? Yep, you got it. On Jones Street. After driving around for about 20 minutes to find parking - tough when people have been bussed in from across the great state of NC - we exit the car and make our way through the rally to the museum. The museum was bursting with people stepping inside from the assembly to get warm and use the restroom. And yes, the first thing MA tells me is that she has to go potty. Yay for telling me. Boo for timing. We wait in line being pushed and shoved by people to the point where she is scared to use the potty. I know this because she was gripping my hand and then wanted to be held.
We made our way around part of the bottom floor and then up to a good toddler room where they could actually touch things and play with animal skins. Plus this room had a door and was guarded by a sweet woman who went over the rules and regulated how many children came in at a time....LOVE HER. After 30 minutes, the twins grew bored and we headed to see the fish. We weren't looking at the fish 10 minutes before a blaring noise went off and we realized metal sheets were coming down all around us. I was confused. Definitely not in mommy mode. Thank goodness Richard was in Daddy mode. He was like, we need to get out of here. It was the fire alarm. So they were shutting down the building and blocking all of the rooms off. We headed towards the fire stairwell. Thankfully our children were not crying, just scared. We climbed down the stairs with about 1000 of our closest friends and for the first time in my life since twins I am thankful I do NOT have the stroller.
We decided it was lunchtime and we were going to treat ourselves to lunch out in Cameron Village after we wove our way through the end of the rally. We went to Cafe Carolina. I had forgotten how expensive that place was. I guess I haven't tried to feed a family of four there...probably not our top choice and we will stick with Chic-fil-a next time we need to go out.
We made it home safely and all fell asleep (PRAISE GOD!). Richard and I were going to see a matinee and Margie was coming to babysit at 5. We were both pretty pumped to get out of the house and see a movie.
We checked the movie time (both of us) on the internet - 5:35 at Northgate Mall. Sold. We get there and they charge us full price - I feel like complaining but we are late because that is what seems to happen to us lately and I don't feel like arguing about $1.50 today - and I know it will embarrass Richard. So we get our popcorn and candy, drinks and head to the room the usher tells us too. Only we get there and it is not the movie we thought we were going to see. We look at our tickets and see they are for the 7:45 showing...what? So we walk out and say we want to see the matinee because it is 5:40 now and we have a sitter and we can't wait two hours for a movie. They were like, "Oh we cancelled that showing". What? Why not mention this when we are purchasing our tickets. So now I'm like, I want my $1.50 back per ticket and we are going to see a different matinee! Richard decides on the Chronicle which started at 5. We get our money back and the manager comes over and he explains I must have checked the wrong Northgate website...I was like, no, I am pretty sure I did not. He says "east coast entertainment" and again, I'm like, "yes, that is the site we checked". At which point Richard is just annoyed and says "morgan it doesn't matter". I am pretty fired up. We then get to the new movie and I realize they didn't give me my water. And I am thirsty. Richard says he will go get it. We are nearing 6PM. We finally sit down and the movie ends at 630. What a disappointment. And just so you know, don't go see the "Chronicle" what we saw was not good. And definitely our $36 outing was not worth it. I will say, it was nice to not do dinner and bath for the kids for the night, but overall a totally unsatisfactory evening.
We decided next time, it might be better not to leave the house.
